AGM Golf Day, Orsett

After monsoon conditions the night before, we arrived at Orsett Golf Club to find the course in

superb condition and barely a puddle in sight!

Fuelled with a sausage bap, my first outing as Skipper saw me grouped with Skizzy, CT and a

welcome return to the fold for Jonny Big Time (but more of that later).

Conditions were good for scoring, but Neil Barnes decided to take the piss and romped the singles

Stableford competition with a ridiculous 44 points. Poor old Sheppy came in with an honourable 38

points, but didn’t get a sniff as Barnsey walked off with the Micky Rob Trophy. We were holding this

event the day before the 1st anniversary of Micky’s passing – where did that year go?!

The sweep ended up as £25 per man, with some dodgy insider dealing amongst Barnsey, Sutts,

Cookie and Aaron.

The 4 nearest the pins were won by: 3rd Dick Otley, 8th Pipes, 12th Gladys and 15th Sheppy. With Gladys

and Piper trying to claim disabled status all day, it’s remarkable that the two of them still walked

away with a prize!

One other score of note – 36 points for Mark Feingold. Well done Mark!

It was a shame to lose half a dozen ‘Happy Hammers’ before dinner and the AGM as they headed to

the London Stadium for the Chelsea game – well that went well didn’t it?!! (CoyS)

Anyway, back to my group. Skizzy, buoyed by playing quite well and spanking his Old Thorns raffle

winning Nike driver miles off the tee, decided to throw down the gauntlet and play me for a pint

(with us both sitting on 16 points on the 10th). He then went blob, blob, blob leaving me 7 points

ahead! Despite a noble fightback, with a birdie on the stroke index one 16th and a 3 point swing, I

think it would be fair to say Skizzy got taken to the f’ing cleaners!!! Moral of the story – don’t get

competitive with a Cumberworth – it will end in tears.

The AGM passed with little of note – other than some English language corrections from Lol and

some miracle balancing of the books by Bazza!

See you all at the dinner on Saturday.

Mark Cumby (2017 Skipper)
