Captain’s Log – Stardate 2017.05.19

All seemed like a very early start at Brookmans Park, not changing my 05:40am work alarm for a 7:45 arrival, the obligatory bacon roll and an 8:30 tee!
The ‘revised schedule’ saw us playing the first 6-7 holes of the singles in pouring rain with standing water on fairways and greens – difficult scoring conditions for mere golfing mortals. Dave Sutton is obviously not a mere golfing mortal!! Walking the Macrae Shield with an impressive 40 points, that is some golf in those conditions – well done Sutts!! Trailing is his wake were Lewis Follon, runner-up on countback with Matt Lucas 3rd both on 36 points.
With lunchtime drinks on Brookmans’ current Captain – thank you Trevor, and re-fuelled with a buffet Ploughmans, we headed out for the Marc Robson Memorial Pairs with improving weather. The Robbo Pairs was a tight affair, with me and Bazza just pipping our playing partners Gary and Jim into 2nd place on countback, with Tony and Aaron, Kevin and Russ also losing out on countback with all 4 pairs finishing on 23 points. Bazza rightly taking the glory with a stunning pressure putt on the 9th green – like a fishing story, it was getting longer and longer over dinner from its original 6 feet!!
The Nearest-the-Pins were won by:
AM: 4th Gary, 6th Matt, 9th Kevin, 11th Sutts and 15th LBK.
PM: 4th -a virgin green (as we had at Canons Brook!), 6th Brad and 9th Trevor.
A few bottles owed to those that didn’t stay for dinner – we can bring those to Clacton.
In the Sweep it was just £10 per man (I think we all knew something was going on with Sutts and the sweep!). Tenners went to Matt, Pipes, me, Barnsey, Jim, Russ, Brad and Sutts (of course!!).
At dinner, Cooky talked us through Tour arrangements, with the final price dependent on the global currency markets. But, as requested by Neil and Bazza, we do need funds for the Tour so please make a further payment as soon as you’re able.
Look forward to seeing you all at Clacton G.C.
