Captain’s Log – Stardate 2017.09.08

Looking at the weather forecast on Thursday when leaving Cornwall, I would have bitten your hand off for 24 dry holes out of 27 (with our PM 18 being completely rain free!).
Nevill was certainly worth the drive. The course was in great nick, with superb greens that were quick even with standing water after the lunchtime deluge. By the way, I was sitting in the clubhouse at that time tucking into my ham, egg and chips and sympathizing for all you poor buggers that were still out there (more having a giggle really). I did actually have a nice bit of salad with my lunch, I think I was the only one, with all our society ‘salad dodgers’ giving it a miss!
Had some fun in the afternoon with Cookie and Sutts. The latter, telling tales of zero sleep and having left a 25 year old blonde at home in bed with missing underwear. My playing partners didn’t have the best of rounds – their combined score would have only beat the winning singles total by one point! As mentioned at dinner, the main highlight of the round was Sheppy’s superb accuracy at managing to bounce the ball off the roof of Cookie’s buggy. The fact that it was preceded by only the faintest ‘FORE’ from Sheppy and that it was about 75 yards off the fairway Sheppy was actually playing making it an even better effort to take out our tour leader. Also, nice to get round on a Beal’s day in 3hrs 45mins.
Who invited Scotty back to play?! There was a bit of wear & tear in the carpet between Scotty’s dining seat and the prize table, but we should be used to that whenever Scott graces us with his presence on a Beal’s day – thank god he’s not on tour!
Well done to all our winners: The pairs were won by Scotty & Lenny with 22 points. Runners-up were Tony Cook & Gazza. Scotty romped the singles with an impressive 41 points with Jeff Bearman runner–up with an excellent 38 points playing off 5.
Lovely to see JR in a maroon and old gold jester’s hat (Ha Ha!)
Nearest-the-pins (AM / PM) were: 4th Scotty / Lenny, 6th Tony / Trev, 9th Lenny / Medium Andy, 12th Jeff and 15th Spit.
The sweep was a tidy £15 and picked up by Scotty, Shep, Andy, Matt, Whelan and Trev.
Next stop Spain! We did the pairs draw at dinner and with our Spanish tour names many of the pairings are still a mystery. Looking forward to it – see you at Gatwick bright and early!
