Captain’s Log – Stardate 2017.04.21

As I said on the day, if there was ever any justification needed as to why we now only play 27 holes,

the 32 at Canons Brook was it! Don’t know about you lot but I was knackered mid-way through the

PM singles and still feeling it on Saturday.

The course was in pretty good shape, if not suffering a bit from no rain and slightly fluffy greens –

which could do with a trim (a bit like Russell’s hair!!). Talking of Russell, my favourite line of the day

came from Ginger when someone complained about his ‘friend’ Russell – Ginger rightly pointed out

that Russell wasn’t a friend, he’s family – you can choose your friends!!

The morning pairs Spring Vase was won by Me (woo hoo!) and JR, with JR playing that magic wand

of a driving iron – that got us out of trouble from numerous wayward tee-shots on my part. I still

thought it was a typical Beal’s wind-up saying we’d won with 27 points – just waiting for someone to

say, actually there was a 32 points come in! As always, lovely to take a drink off our playing partners

Tourette’s Trev and Jonny Big Time! Webby and Roy were 2 nd with 26 points.

Modest scoring also prevailed in the PM singles. All tanked up with scampi and chips, the Spring Cup

was won by Brad Aspess with 35 points (well done Bradders!). Sutts and Trev followed on with 34

and then a whole host of players with 33. I did notice Sutts coming up yet again to collect £25 on the

sweep – as if he hasn’t got enough money already!!

Good to see Pipes back in action and my big bruv on his way to recovery and joining us for dinner.

Different names on all the NtP’s! Well done to Aaron, Skizzy, Tony, Brad, Ginger and Jim – with a

very unusual ‘virgin green’ on the 15 th PM!! – as I said, we were all getting very tired (well at least

that was a bottle of plonk I could take home for my consumption on Saturday night!)

Great fun as always gents – look forward to seeing you all at Brookmans Park on 19 th May.
